The following represents my interpretation of the events that transpired between the 1st and 17th of July, 2011 throughout the U.S and in Mexico. My thoughts may be jumbled a bit, but I hope to get the message across.
Day 1: Bus. Thursday evening was spent on the bus, and we immediately started thumbing through the movies. It should be noted that the DVD case containing the Vincents’ movies was given to another Venturer and were not returned to me. Several people had not quite mastered the art of sleeping on the bus (myself included).
Day 2: More Bus. It seems to me that several states never seemed to end. What I mean by this is that it seemed as if we would never finish passing through any given state. At this point the days seem to get a bit foggy, so I will just highlight some of the things from the bus without giving the days. Firstly, our bus broke down. It was still functional, but the engine tended to overheat. Although initially we came up with a plan to stop frequently (which would put us even further behind schedule than originally was the case) we were able to work out some sort of solution wherein we sprayed water into the engine from the bathroom (not sure exactly how this worked as I sat closer to the front and was not involved with this). As we approached Vegas, it became quite clear that we would be needing a new bus, so we met up with DJ and his Mercedes-Benz bus (quite shiny). Together, we traipsed through Nevada (we watched Goldmember, and the audio quality was quite a bit better than on the other bus). We passed through Las Vegas and zoomed by several noteworthy hotels and landmarks (I was fascinated by the fact that the Trump Towers Hotel is gold). At some point in the afternoon, we arrived in San Diego. As we unloaded the gear, we were provided with small carts for transportation. Unfortunately, it was explicitly stated that we were not permitted to ride on the carts; if we were this story might have been a bit more interesting. After setting up, we took advantage of the pool that was available. Although it was not covered (there were dead insects galore) the water temperature was perfect and a game of Jackpot was played with great satisfaction. We invited the operators of the campsite over for dinner and rendezvoused with Kim, Kendra, Tyler, Shane, and Jessica before bedding down for the night. At this point, I have decided to continue the story in another post as I wish to make sure that this one actually makes it to the right place…
